Aishwarya Rai was born on November 1, 1973, in the Indian city of Mangalore.
Her father, Krishnaraj Rai is a marine biologist and her mother, Vrinda Rai, was a writer. She has an older brother, Aditya Rai. Her family is part of the Bunt community.
After she was born, the family moved to Mumbai where Aishwarya finished high school. After this she studied architecture while at the same time she also began working in modeling.
In 1994, Aishwarya Rai won the second place at Miss India, then in the same year, wons the Miss World contest. Aishwarya appeared also in various small screen parts.
After this, came the Bollywood film industry. Having a great success in just a couple of years, Rai became a star in the indian movies some of her biggest hits being: “Jeans”, “Iruvar”, “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”.
